2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Transition Comes After Mixed Response

Brinkman takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the requirement for a clearer vision.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining the project with a revised focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

The news follows a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock development group.

I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”

Through your commitment and flexibility, particularly over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It revealed the requirement for a clearer identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to consideration and revamped the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s ready to achieve its potential to our fans.

Brinkman currently serves in the role of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at major gaming companies in various development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a early access event. At the time, the developers portrayed the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the style."
